In this group of poems, based on saetas, soleares, and siguiriyas, Lorca captures the passionate flamenco cosmos of Andalusia's Gypsies, "those mysterious wandering folk who gave deep song its definitive form."Ĭante jondo, deep song, comes from a musical tradition that developed among peoples who fled into the mountains in the 15th century to escape the Spanish Inquisition. Colombian-born, multidisciplinary artist Esperanza Corts shares a passion for the mosaic of the Americas, and their ever-evolving confluence of cultures, which informs their traditions, rituals, music, and art. The flamenco jondo (jondo comes from deep, deep) combines, in a crucible never seen before, five musical cultures: the local Andalusian folklore, the music that brought the gypsies (that emigrated from India arrived to the south of Spain in the year 1400 ), Arabic music (the Arabs were from the year 700), and also musical features of the Jews. The influence of this music on his later work was more subtle and indirect. forms are known as cante jondo In 1922 the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla led in the organization of the Concurso de Cante Jondo for Granada.

Colombian-born artist Esperanza Cortes is the originator of the strong show Cante Jondo (Deep Song), composed of a series of works, mostly sculptures in the form of decorated chairs. The magic of Andalusia is crystallized in Federico Garcia Lorca's first major work, Poem of the Deep Song, written in 1921 when the poet was twenty-three years old, and published a decade later.
